Diana Ross, whose voice is on more than 18 No. 1 hits, started in Detroit at Motown Records when the Supremes (formerly the Primettes) were signed to the label in 1961. Diana Ross embarked on a solo career, leaving the Supremes, in 1970.
The native Detroiter was nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Billie Holiday in the Berry Gordy-directed film LADY SINGS THE BLUES and is a Tony and Golden Globe winner, best-selling author, winner of 8 American Music Awards and a recipient of The Kennedy Center Honors.
