Tyler Perry heads to South Florida with MADEA GETS A JOB!

It’s Tyler Perry’s MADEA GETS A JOB starring Tyler Perry. After an overwhelming demand for his stage appearance, Madea is back in action. It’s laughter out of this world!
In this performance, hard times (and the judge) caught up with Madea and she is forced to come out of retirement to go to work. Still on probation, Madea is not a star candidate for employment, no way, no how but she has to fulfill her community service obligations.

In Tyler Perry’s MADEA GETS A JOB, Madea’s unconventional job highlights an inevitable situation we must face – getting old. You will find that nursing homes can put a strain on family relationships and the hardships some families encounter after making that most important decision for our loved ones. Madea, lady of wit and wisdom brings out the best of a situation (and there are a lot of situations in this production.) She will always tell you the truth whether you like it or not.
This is a very high-spirited and uplifting performance from a collection of talented and exceptionally seasoned cast. You’ll hurt yourself laughing. With so many twists and turns, you will never figure out the ending.

Check it out – you already know what to expect from a Tyler Perry production!
Tyler Perry’s MADEA GETS A JOB will be at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami, Florida on Friday & Saturday November 9 & 10, 2012.

Multi-Award winner Valerie Harper brings her Tallulah Bankhead and LOOPED to South Florida!

Valerie Harper recreates her Tony Award® nominated performance as Tallulah Bankhead in Matthew Lombardo's LOOPED.

Southern, but by no means a belle, Tallulah Bankhead was known for wild partying and convention-defying exploits that surpassed even today's celebrity bad girls. Based on a true story, the play is set in a 1965 sound studio. Ms. Bankhead has been summoned to re-record, or loop, a single muffed line of dialogue from what would be her last film, DIE, DIE MY DARLING. It's a simple task, but ultimately takes hours when Bankhead arrives so inebriated she's unable to loop the line properly. What ensues is an uproarious showdown between an uptight film editor and the outrageous legend.

Held hostage to Bankhead's antics, her recollections spill out as her talk turns to scandals and rumors that have followed her for years - bedding Gary Cooper and Joan Crawford, her disastrous turn in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, and more.

Sporting a satiny blue gown to match her language, The New York Times says Emmy® and Golden Globe® Award winner Valerie Harper gives a "big, blustery performance, nailing every last laugh with a professionalism that the real Bankhead would surely admire."
Playwright Matthew Lombardo, who also penned HIGH starring Kathleen Turner, captures Bankhead's brilliance and bravado in a piece that plays the diva for superbly for both dramatic and comedic effect.

LOOPED will be at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from February 26 to March 3, 2013.

Outspoken Bill Maher heads to South Florida!

For the last 18 years, Bill Maher has set the boundaries of where funny, political talk can go on American television.  First on Politically Incorrect (Comedy Central & ABC from 1993 to 2002), and for the last seven years on HBO’s Real Time, Maher’s combination of unflinching honesty and big laughs have garnered him 27 Emmy nominations.
In October of 2008, this same combination was on display in Maher’s uproarious and unprecedented swipe at organized religion, “Religulous”, directed by Larry Charles (BORAT). The documentary has gone on to become the 7th highest grossing documentary, ever.
In addition to his television program – which has featured such regular visitors as John Edwards, Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Arianna Huffington, Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore – Maher has written four bestsellers: “True Story”, “Does Anybody Have a Problem with That?”, “Politically Incorrect’s Greatest Hits”, “When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden”, “New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer” and most recently, “The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody But Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass”.
Maher began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1979, and still performs at least 50 dates a year in Las Vegas and in sold-out theaters across the country.  Two of his nine stand-up specials for HBO – 2007’s “The Decider” and 2005’s “I’m Swiss” – have been nominated for Emmy awards. Maher’s most recent stand-up special for HBO was the hilarious.
His stand-up special, ”CrazyStupidPolitics LIVE! from Silicon Valley” was streamed live on Yahoo.com earlier this year.
Real Time with Bill Maher returned from hiatus for the second half of its 10th season on August 17, 2012.
Maher was born in New York City, raised in River Vale, N.J. and went to Cornell University.  He now resides in Los Angeles.
Bill Maher will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Sunday September 2, 2012.

Nickelodeon’s The Fresh Beat Band heads to South Florida!

One of the hottest pop acts on the road this year is a group you've probably never heard of, unless you have a child of preschool age.

That would be The Fresh Beat Band, stars of the TV series of the same name, now in its third season on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. The Fresh Beats, as they are known to the faithful, launch their first national tour. By popular demand, there will be 95 shows, nearly twice as many as were scheduled when the trek was announced in November 2011. Tickets sold out within a day in Miami, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia and New York City.
Created and executive-produced by the husband-and-wife team of Scott Kraft and Nadine van der Velde, The Fresh Beat Band follows four young adults — two guys named Twist and Shout and two gals, Kiki and Marina — as they study music and solve everyday problems.

The actors all sing, dance and play instruments, and original tunes written by Kraft and van der Velde and other pop composers are incorporated into each episode. Bouncy, wholesome numbers include “Here We Go”, “A Friend Like You” and “Just Like a Rockstar”, which all reached No. 1 on iTunes' children's songs chart. They can all be found on the compilation The Fresh Beat Band: Music from the Hit TV Show.
Kraft and van der Velde's younger daughter, Beatrice, now 10, inspired the format. "Years ago, when she started going to birthday parties, we noticed — as we had with our older daughter — that they were themed after older kids' shows," says van der Velde. "Nothing awful, but not entirely appropriate — boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, for these kids who were 2 and 3 and 4. So we thought, why not create real characters these kids could interact with?"
They still wanted older role models: "kids these days are very sophisticated, and we wanted a show with a real band who didn't talk down to them," Kraft says. Adds Paula Kaplan, Nickelodeon's executive vice president of talent, "We wanted a visibly diverse cast, with different skills."
The performers certainly boast eclectic and impressive résumés. Thomas Hobson, 27, who plays Shout, performed at Yale Drama School as a university undergraduate; Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, 25, cast as Kiki, also is a theater veteran, and a trained opera singer who began violin studies at age 3.
Newest cast member Tara Perry, 26 — who replaced Shayna Rose as Marina in 2011, after Rose left the show to pursue other career opportunities — has an extensive background in improvisational comedy. Perry recalls that her audition notice called for "a redhead who could sing, dance and play drums. And they wanted someone who was a mix between Lucille Ball and Tina Fey."
The roles were originally tailored, though, to the company. When Jon Beavers, 27, the stage actor and DJ who plays Twist, auditioned, "he rapped instead of singing," Kraft remembers. "And we thought, 'That's great — let's throw him in.' "
Hobson notes that the producers still, "at the top of every season, ask us to draw up a list of any talents we have that we haven't yet used on the show."
Kraft posits that "part of the reason the tour is so popular is that these performers are doing what they do best. And people can tell that they'll be able to do it live."
The Fresh Beat Band will be at the  Mizner Park  Amphitheatre in Boca Raton, Florida on Friday August 24, 2012.

Fiona Apple brings her 2012 Tour to South Florida!

The American singer/songwriter, Fiona Apple, has extended her North American tour this summer in support of her latest album "The Idler Wheel is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do."
The summer tour kicked off on June 19, the same day of her album release, in her home state of New York at the State Theater in Ithaca. She will make her way along the East Coast and wrap it up in Pittsburgh, PA on October 21. Some notable venues include the Chicago Theater in IL, Chicago; the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA; and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.

The 49-city theater and auditorium excursion will also make three stops in Canada. At first her tour only consisted of 27 dates, but she added 21 additional stops to her comeback tour.
Fiona had a successful Spring tour with two sold out shows in Chicago and another sold out show in New York at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. A handful of songs from "The Idler Wheel..." were performed on her Spring tour. The first single, "Every Single Night" was released on April 23. Two other singles, "Anything We Want" and "Valentine" were debuted in March. Apple was welcomed back enthusiastically by loud screams during her Spring tour and she could hardly rest between songs, according to WMagazine.com.
Apple recently performed at the Governors Ball Music Festival on Randalls Island in New York. The New York Times stated "Sunday's most riveting performance belonged to Ms. Apple and her songs about romantic strife and self-torment." The article goes on to describe the high energy performance Apple gave fans by dancing to the music.
"The Idler Wheel..." is Apple's fourth album and her first studio set since 2005's "Extraordinary Machine," and was released on June 19, 2012 via Clean Slate/Epic Records. Apple told NPR's Guy Raz, "The only reason that it takes me seven years to do stuff is because I just don't really have a plan. I got a lot of problems, but I'm really good at intuiting what I need to do to be happy with whatever I create. I know when to stop myself, I know when to start, I know when to leave something alone. I guess I just kind of indulge that completely, and so I just take my time."
The album was recorded around four years ago and then stayed at Epic records until changes were made. The album's long title is not unusual for her, given her 1999 release, "When The Pawn...," which was a 90 word poem. Apple talked about the long title of her newest album with NPR, "These two lines represent two places where I am in my life right now — where I've gotten past the place of being somebody who [thinks], 'I'm just going to hit this thing until it's right. And turned into this person who feels a lot more powerful and a lot wiser.'"
Apple came onto the scene at the age of 19 in 1996, with the triple platinum album "Tidal," and in 1998 her single, "Criminal" earned a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
Fiona Apple will be at The Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach, Florida on Sunday September 30, 2012.

Multi-Grammy Award winner Anita Baker heads to South Florida!

With her classy, refined brand of romantic soul, Anita Baker was one of the definitive quiet storm singers of the '80s. Gifted with a strong, supple alto, Baker was influenced not only by R&B, but jazz, gospel, and traditional pop, which gave her music a distinctly adult sophistication. Smooth and mellow, but hardly lifeless, it made her one of the most popular romantic singers of her time.
Baker released her major-label debut “Rapture” in 1986. It was a platinum, Grammy-winning smash, appealing to both urban and adult contemporary listeners and producing two all-time quiet storm classics in "Caught Up in the Rapture" and "Sweet Love." Baker toured the world in 1987 and her guest appearance on the Winans track "Ain't Got No Need to Worry" won a Grammy. Her equally stylish follow-up album, “Giving You the Best That I Got”, appeared in 1988, spawning more staples in the title track and "Just Because." "Giving You the Best That I Got" also won Baker two more Grammys, for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song. For her third Elektra album, Baker decided to handle a greater share of the songwriting, hence the title “Compositions”, which was released in 1990 and featured even stronger jazz inflections than Baker's previous work (not to mention all live instruments).
Following “Compositions”, Baker took a break from recording and touring; after having her first son in 1993, she returned to the studio to craft “Rhythm of Love”, which was released in 1994. In the years that followed, Baker was mostly silent, despite her fans' clamoring for a jazz album; instead, she raised her family and became embroiled in contract disputes with Elektra, which eventually led her to move to Atlantic.

She began working on a new album in 2000, but had to start over from scratch due to defective recording equipment that made the original tracks unsalvageable. In 2004 it was announced that she had signed with Blue Note and still working on her new album. In the meantime, the Atlantic imprint Rhino released “Night of Rapture: Live”, a 1987 concert originally available on video. Baker finally returned to the studio in 2003 and issued “My Everything”, her first album in 10 years. Two years later she released her first holiday album, “Christmas Fantasy”. Baker will release her new album, “Only Forever”, coming October 23, 2012.
Anita Baker will be at the Waterfront Theatre at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami Florida on Thursday November 15, 2012.

Rock legends Joe Cocker & Dave Mason head to South Florida!

British soul singer Joe Cocker parlayed Ray Charles-type vocals and an eccentric stage presence into a string of late-’60s hits, suffered in the mid-’70s, and went from tragic figure to well-respected interpreter in the ’80s and ’90s. His gritty, powerful voice remains one of the most distinctive in rock & roll today.
After leaving school early to become an apprentice gas fitter in Sheffield, England, Cocker joined his first group in 1959, the Cavaliers. When he moved to lead vocals in 1960, the band changed its name to Vance Arnold (Cocker’s stage name) and the Avengers. In 1961, he released his first single, a cover of The Beatles’ “I’ll Cry Instead” with a new band, Joe Cocker Big Blues.
But, it wasn’t until 1969, at Woodstock, that he entered the big time with another Beatles song, the groundbreaking rearrangement of “With a Little Help from My Friends” featuring lead guitar from Jimmy Page, and an explosive performance. That’s same year he was featured on The Ed Sullivan Show and This is Tom Jones.
His onstage physical intensity -, flailing his arms, playing air guitar and occasionally giving superfluous cues to his band – led to a key SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE moment when, while performing the hit “Feelin’ Alright,” cast member John Belushi joined Cocker onstage doing his famous impersonation of the singer.
“Delta Lady,” Cocker’s next big hit was penned by Leon Russell who also helped make the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour a success in 1970. It resulted in a #2 live double album that yielded a pair of hits – “The Letter” and “Cry Me a River” plus a film. Five years later, Cocker had one of the biggest hits of his career with the achingly tender Billy Preston-penned #5 hit, “You Are So Beautiful.”
In 1982, Cocker re-emerged with a #1 duet with Jennifer Warnes, “Up Where We Belong,” from the movie AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN. Since then, several other Cocker songs have graced films, including his version of Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” (91/2 WEEKS in 1986) and Bryan Adams’ “When the Night Comes” (AN INNOCENT MAN in 1990).
Earlier this year Cocker released an album titled “Hard Knocks,” and he recently completed a new record “Fire It Up,” which is scheduled to be released in November 2012.
Cocker was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s 2007 Birthday Honours list for services to music. Cocker also appeared that year in in the film ACROSS THE UNIVERSE with a cameo as the lead singer on another Beatles hit, “Come Together.”
At age 18, Worcester, England-native Dave Mason teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic whose profound influence over rock music remains unquestioned, even today.
At 19, Mason penned the song “Feelin’ Alright.” First recorded by Traffic, this song has since become a rock and roll anthem and recorded by dozens of artists, including tour partner Joe Cocker.
In 1969, Mason pursued a solo career. A prolific artist, Mason has penned over 100 songs. He struck gold with the album “Alone Together”, which is considered a rock classic. This was followed by five albums including Dave Mason and Mariposa De Oro, four of which received gold albums. “Let It Flow”, which has gone well over platinum, contained the Top 10 single “We Just Disagree.”
In addition to performing to sold-out audiences, Mason performed, is linked with and has performed on a number of albums including The Rolling Stones’ “Beggars Banquet”; George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass”; Paul McCartney’s “Listen To What The Man Said” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Electric Ladyland”. One of the songs from “Electric Ladyland”, “All Along the Watchtower,” featured Mason playing acoustic guitar. This song, written by Bob Dylan, remains a favorite in Mason’s live show.
Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of the group Traffic, and is considered an important figure in American music history. With a career spanning nearly 50 years, Mason is hailed as one of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the world.
Mason is a tireless supporter of philanthropic causes including Work Vessels for Vets, Yoga Blue, and Kids Rock.
Joe Cocker & Dave Mason will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Friday & Saturday September 28 & 29, 2012.

The B-52s bring their 35th Anniversary Tour to South Florida!

With 35 years and over 20 million albums sold highlighting their career, there can be no doubt as to why The B-52s remain one of rock music’s most beloved and enduring bands.
Any mystery concerning the band’s longevity and ongoing appeal is immediately solved when exposed to a B-52s concert experience. From groundbreaking songs like “Rock Lobster,” “Dance This Mess Around” and “Private Idaho“ to chart-topping hits like “Love Shack” and “Roam” and “Deadbeat Club” to their thrilling reemergence on the pop scene with their 2008 CD “Funplex”, The B-52s’ unforgettable dance-rock tunes start a party every time their music begins.
Formed in 1976 in Athens, GA, the band played their first gig at a friend’s house on Valentine’s Day 1977. Naming themselves after Southern slang for exaggerated ‘bouffant” hairdos, the newly-christened B-52s (Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson and her brother, the late Ricky Wilson) began weekend road trips to New York City for gigs at CBGBs and a handful of other venues. Before long, their thrift store aesthetic and genre-defying songs were the talk of the post-punk underground. A record deal soon followed and their self-titled debut disc, produced by Chris Blackwell, sold more than 500,000 copies on the strength of their first singles, the garage rock party classic “Rock Lobster,” and “52 Girls.” The B-52s began to attract fans far beyond the punk clubs of the Lower East Side — galvanizing the pop world with their ‘stream-of-consciousness’ approach to songwriting and outrageous performance.
With the release of their second studio effort, “Wild Planet” (1980), The B-52s proved their success was no fluke with hits with “Private Idaho,” “Give Me Back My Man” and “Strobe Light.” In just two albums, The B-52s created a lexicon of songs, styles, phrases and images which would set the standard for the development of the ‘alternative music scene’ for the next decade. The success of “Mesopotamia” (1982), and “Whammy!” (1983) positioned The B-52s as MTV regulars as well as alternative radio staples.
At the time of their greatest achievements, however, they suffered their greatest tragedy — the death of guitarist Ricky Wilson from AIDS. Wilson’s passing in 1985 came just after the sessions for “Bouncing Off the Satellites” (1986). The album, dedicated to Wilson, had taken nearly three years to complete but was worth the wait, serving up the fan favorites “Summer of Love” and “Wig.”
After a period of mourning, the band re-emerged with the Don Was/Nile Rodgers co-produced “Cosmic Thing” (1989). The album proved to be the greatest commercial achievement for the group, and its success propelled the band to international superstars. “Cosmic Thing” soared to the top of the Billboard Album chart, sold five million copies and yielded their first-ever Hot 10 hits — “Love Shack” and “Roam” and a Top 40 hit with “Deadbeat Club.”

Soon after, Cindy Wilson amicably departed. As a trio, Fred, Keith and Kate re-enlisted the tag team of Was and Rodgers to produce the energetic “Good Stuff” (1992) with its popular title cut and concert favorite “Is That You Mo-Dean?” Wilson returned in 1998 for “Time Capsule” followed by the two-disc collection “Nude on the Moon: The B-52s Anthology” (2002).
In 2008 The B-52s released their first new album in 16 years, the aptly titled “Funplex”.
The band celebrated its 34th anniversary in 2011 with a triumphant return to their hometown of Athens, GA. The concert was recorded and filmed for a CD and DVD release entitled “The B-52s with the Wild Crowd! Live in Athens, GA.”
As they take their party-music revolution into the 21st century, The B-52s show no signs of slowing down serving up their own unique blend of music and showmanship to millions of fans around the world.
The B-52s will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday August 22, 2012.

International Latin superstar Julio Iglesias brings his 2012 "1" World Tour to South Florida!

The “1” Julio Iglesias World Tour will celebrate the singer’s newest release featuring 15 re-recordings of some of the biggest hits of his 43-year career, and also new versions of songs, such as “Eu Nunca Te Esqueci (Always On My Mind)” which is the soundtrack of Brazilian soap opera “O Astro”.  The CD is already a smash platinum success in Brazil, Spain, Colombia and all of Latin America, on iTunes, exceeding one million copies sold.
Iglesias’ romantic image, magnetic stage presence, and expressive music have made him one of the best-selling artists of all time with hundreds of millions of albums sold in 14 languages, worldwide.
In 1983, Julio Iglesias received the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a singer by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history (Spanish, German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Tagalog and Japanese). However, his major crossover success was 1984′s “1100 Bel Air Place”, a collection of duets that featured the Top Ten English hit duet with Willie Nelson, “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” and “All of You,” another hit duet with Diana Ross. The album sold over sixteen million copies worldwide.
In 1985 he became one of the few Hispanic artists to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also received an affectionate tribute from Miami residents, the city in which he resided, granting him a place of honor on the legendary Walk of Latin Stars on Miami’s 8th Street (La Calle Ocho).
Iglesias’ popularity continued to grow throughout the ’80s, although he only had one more pop crossover hit, 1988′s “My Love,” a duet with Stevie Wonder. That same year, he received a Grammy Award for Best Latin Singer of the Year 1987 for his album “Un hombre Solo” and Artist of the Year from Aplauso ’92.
Other honors Iglesias has earned include being named Ambassador of Galicia, Spain, being awarded the Monaco World Music Award for the best Latin singer, receiving the ASCAP Pied Piper Award (as the first Latin recipient) and having the distinct honor of being the only foreign artist in China’s history to receive the prestigious Golden Record Award. He has performed in the inaugural Olympics ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, has served as a UNICEF Special Representative for the Performing Arts and received a Star of Scheveningen in The Netherlands, all in addition to his many international recording industry honors.
In 2008, Iglesias celebrated his 40th anniversary as a singer. He still continues to shatter concert attendance records across the globe and give back to the communities which made him a star.
Julio Iglesias will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Friday and Saturday September 21 & 22, 2012.
