The “1” Julio Iglesias World Tour will celebrate the singer’s newest release featuring 15 re-recordings of some of the biggest hits of his 43-year career, and also new versions of songs, such as “Eu Nunca Te Esqueci (Always On My Mind)” which is the soundtrack of Brazilian soap opera “O Astro”. The CD is already a smash platinum success in Brazil, Spain, Colombia and all of Latin America, on iTunes, exceeding one million copies sold.
Iglesias’ romantic image, magnetic stage presence, and expressive music have made him one of the best-selling artists of all time with hundreds of millions of albums sold in 14 languages, worldwide.
In 1983, Julio Iglesias received the first and only Diamond Record Award ever given to a singer by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling more records in more languages than any other musical artist in history (Spanish, German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Tagalog and Japanese). However, his major crossover success was 1984′s “1100 Bel Air Place”, a collection of duets that featured the Top Ten English hit duet with Willie Nelson, “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” and “All of You,” another hit duet with Diana Ross. The album sold over sixteen million copies worldwide.
In 1985 he became one of the few Hispanic artists to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also received an affectionate tribute from Miami residents, the city in which he resided, granting him a place of honor on the legendary Walk of Latin Stars on Miami’s 8th Street (La Calle Ocho).
Iglesias’ popularity continued to grow throughout the ’80s, although he only had one more pop crossover hit, 1988′s “My Love,” a duet with Stevie Wonder. That same year, he received a Grammy Award for Best Latin Singer of the Year 1987 for his album “Un hombre Solo” and Artist of the Year from Aplauso ’92.
Other honors Iglesias has earned include being named Ambassador of Galicia, Spain, being awarded the Monaco World Music Award for the best Latin singer, receiving the ASCAP Pied Piper Award (as the first Latin recipient) and having the distinct honor of being the only foreign artist in China’s history to receive the prestigious Golden Record Award. He has performed in the inaugural Olympics ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, has served as a UNICEF Special Representative for the Performing Arts and received a Star of Scheveningen in The Netherlands, all in addition to his many international recording industry honors.
In 2008, Iglesias celebrated his 40th anniversary as a singer. He still continues to shatter concert attendance records across the globe and give back to the communities which made him a star.
