"The 2011 event will continue our legacy of producing a first class event. As we say in Miami Gardens, 'if we don't do it first class, we don't do it at all!' This event is really making an impact locally on tourism and travel. About 45,000 people attended the event last year. People come from all around the nation and it truly has a positive impact on the local economy. Hotels, restaurants, airlines, car rentals and retailers are reaping the economic benefits of what the JAZZ IN THE GARDENS brand has created. Miami Gardens is making a significant contribution to the region, and we are proud to have an asset that not only provides great leisure activity and entertainment, but also is an economic engine," says Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson.
JAZZ IN THE GARDENS owes its success to a simple formula: a star-studded line-up, great food, extraordinarily affordable ticket prices and amazing weather. For the past five years the festival has enjoyed unprecedented growth, consistently delivering stunning increases in attendance and box office revenues year after year. Despite the economy, in 2010 the 5th Annual JAZZ IN THE GARDENS Festival box office enjoyed a 90% increase in revenue.
The 6th Annual JAZZ IN THE GARDENS Festival 2011 lineup is alive with an impressive line-up. Lauryn Hill will lead the first day of the festival with the rest of the lineup for the first day including: beatbox luminary Doug E. Fresh and ruler of rap storytelling Slick Rick. The day also includes R&B/soul songstress Jazmine Sullivan, who released the accomplished “Love Me Back” and "Holding You Down (Goin' In Circles)," which also features a Slick Rick snippet or three. Rounding out Friday is Gap Band's Charlie Wilson, and the jazziest of the whole bunch Al Jarreau.
Sunday's magnetism relies on Gladys Knight, En Vogue, the Grammy-nominated El DeBarge, Lalah Hathaway and Branford Marsalis. The day will also feature some local jazz artists.
The 6th Annual JAZZ IN THE GARDENS Festival will be at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami (Gardens), Florida… Saturday and Sunday March 19 & 20, 2011.
