Some laptop artists get a reputation for being dull live, bt that definitely can't be said about mash-up master Girl Talk (aka Greg Gillis). We don't need us to tell you the Pittsburgh, PA-based beat-maker has earned a reputation for energized live shows, inviting fans on stage and pulling off goofy stunts like rigging toilet paper rolls onto leaf blowers. Now, Girl Talk is planning to take his sweat-dripping live show on a lengthy North American tour.
Girl Talk is touring in support of his recently released fifth LP "All Day". Gillis recently told Pitchfork: "I wanted to put in more little breather-room elements. It's definitely in the same ballpark as "Feed the Animals", but the production's more complex and there's more of a variety in the source material."
Girl Talk has added another batch of dates to his upcoming itinerary, with stops now scheduled for Los Angeles, CA, Urbana, IL, Miami Beach, FL, Orlando, FL and Oxford, MS, among other cities. This is without mentioning his many scheduled festival appearances, which include but not limited to Hangout, Bonnaroo, Primavera Sound, and the Governor's Ball Music Festival.
"Mr. Gillis aims to please. His music is a collage of hits, recent and old, that are instantly recognizable to just about everyone in the crowd. Each one -- from Jay-Z to Styx to the Ramones to Missy Elliot to Nirvana -- draws a cheer within a few notes. Mr. Gillis samples the song's obvious hooks. He isn't a hipster showing off how deeply he's dug into his collection; he's a fellow fan, reactivating remembered pop pleasures." - Jon Pareles (The New York Times)
Girl Talk will be at The Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach, Florida on Thursday May 19, 2011.
