Roger Waters brings THE WALL Live Tour back to South Florida!

Roger Waters has not kept it a secret that his visually stunning production of THE WALL would continue on into 2012. Now it’s known that it’s not just a few shows, but at least 36.

The 2012 version of the production kicked-off in Houston at the Toyota Center May 1, 2012.

Waters has tweaked the show as it has gone along, adding or changing elements that have kept it relevant. But now it’s apparently been adjusted to make it an outdoor show – which should suit concertgoers having withdrawals now that U2’s extravagant production has been mothballed.

The latest trek includes stadium stops at San Francisco’s AT&T Park May 11, Vancouver’s BC Place May 26, Chicago’s Wrigley Field June 8, Toronto’s Rogers Centre June 23 and the last listed show at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park July 14.

There are also a few TBDs – in Los Angeles, Boston and New York – which could also mean stadiums if the right deals are worked out.
Those of you who’ve seen this show know what to do – bring a friend. It’s one of those concerts you’ve probably told all your more stationary buddies about.
“When Roger Waters finished building THE WALL in its entirety, at Madison Square Garden, it was just another brick on what was the best arena concert I’ve ever been to. Period,” wrote the New York Post’s Dan Aquilante.
For those who pay attention to the music, the tour includes guitarists Snowy White, Dave Kilminster, G.E. Smith, Harry Waters on Hammond Organ and Graham Broad on Drums.

Roger Waters’ THE WALL Live Tour will be at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday June 15, 2012.

80s rock Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES heads back to South Florida!

In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker in LA's most famous rock club and they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80's.
ROCK OF AGES, the 5 time Tony nominated musical, is an arena-rock love story told through the mind blowing, face-melting hits of JOURNEY, NIGHT RANGER, STYX, REO SPEEDWAGON, PAT BENATAR, TWISTED SISTER, POISON, ASIA, WHITESNAKE and many more.

It is now also a major motion picture, directed by HAIRSPRAY: The Musical's Adam Shankman and featuring a star-studded cast that includes: Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Julianne Hough, Malin Akerman, Will Forte and Diego Boneta.  The film hits movie theatres on June 15, 2012.

An interesting footnote is that the film was shot entirely in Miami, Florida where an entire section of downtown Miami was transformed into a 1980s Sunset Strip, including a Shell gas station (complete with those old stand-up gas pumps) and even a Tower Records and Frederick's of Hollywood storefront.  Heck, even an 80s Angelyne billboard was erected, which was a sight to see as it contrasted the present-day downtown Miami skyline (which, of course, was digitally removed for the actual film).

With smash hit productions in Australia, London, South Korea and still rockin' on Broadway, ROCK OF AGES is a worldwide phenomenon featuring 28 classic rock tunes including DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’, WE BUILT THIS CITY, THE FINAL COUNTDOWN, WANTED DEAD OF ALIVE, HERE I GO AGAIN, HARDEN MY HEART, CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING, RENEGADE and
I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IS.
Don't miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on!
ROCK OF AGES will be at the Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Arsht Center in downtown Miami, Florida October 9 to 14, 2012.

Melissa Etheridge brings her FEARLESS LOVE World Tour to South Florida!

Outspoken Grammy and Academy Award-winning musician and social activist Melissa Etheridge first picked up the guitar in her native Kansas at the age of eight and began penning her own songs shortly thereafter. She attended the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, before dropping out after a year in the early ‘80s to make her way in Los Angeles. After a stint on the club circuit, producers took notice and Etheridge scored a deal releasing her self-titled debut in 1988.

The album quickly drew comparisons to such heavyweights as Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp, as it spawned the hit single “Bring Me Some Water” and earned gold certification. In the wake of the album’s success, Etheridge performed at the Grammy Awards the following year and contributed vocals to Don Henley‘s “The End of the Innocence”.

Etheridge managed to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump with 1989′s “Brave and Crazy”, which followed the same musical formula as its predecessor and proved to be another gold-certified success. It would be nearly three years before Etheridge’s next studio album appeared, however, and 1992 signaled the arrival of “Never Enough”, an album that proved to be more musically varied.

But it was Etheridge’s fourth release that would prove to be her massive commercial breakthrough. Tired of rumors and questions regarding her sexuality, Etheridge decided to put the speculation to rest once and for all, titling the album “Yes I Am”. The album, which spawned two major MTV/radio hits with “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window” would sell a staggering six million copies in the U.S. during a single-year period and earned a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocalist. Subsequent releases followed including 1995′s “Your Little Secret”, 1999′s “Breakdown” and 2001′s “Skin”.
The year 2002 saw the release of Etheridge’s autobiography, “The Truth Is: My Life in Love and Music”, and 2004′s “Lucky” was her celebration of a new romance. Later that same year, Etheridge revealed that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. But early detection allowed for recovery, and she gave strength to many of those stricken by the disease with a powerful performance of Janis Joplin‘s “Piece of My Heart” at the 47th Annual Grammys, held in February 2005. That September, Etheridge released “Greatest Hits: The Road Less Traveled”, a compilation of career highlights and new material.
In 2007 Etheridge released “The Awakening” chronicling her rise to rock star, human rights activist, parent and cancer survivor. That’s same year she was honored with a 2007 Academy Award for “I Need to Wake Up,” her song featured in the Al Gore environmental documentary AN INCONVINIENT TRUTH.
Other releases include “A New Thought for Christmas” (2008), “Fearless Love” (2010) and the recently released “Icon” (2011).
In addition to her Academy Award and Grammys, Etheridge is a recipient of the Juno Awards’ International Entertainer of the Year (1990) and GLAAD‘s Stephen F. Kolzak Award (2006), honoring openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equal rights.
Melissa Etheridge will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday May 16, 2012.

Grammy Award winning gospel group Mary Mary head to South Florida!

After an amazing year that included performing across the country, receiving the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award, a BET Award, Soul Train Award, two Stellar Awards and double Grammy Award nominations, the platinum selling Mary Mary is on a roll. The successful duo just released a stirring new single, “Go Get It,” the title track from their new album to be released on May 8. The album will include two brand new songs and classic remixed and remastered versions of some of the duo’s greatest hits. The new video for “Go Get It,” directed by Darren Grant (India Arie, Common, Destiny’s Child) recently premiered exclusively on wetv.com.

In addition to being award-winning vocalists, sisters Erica and Tina Campbell are the stars of their own reality television series, MARY MARY which also debuted on popular cable network WE TV in March 2012. The new show follows the Campbells on-stage as successful recording artists and performers and off-stage as siblings, mothers and wives, striving to balance their superstar lifestyles with raising their own families.

Born in Inglewood, CA to an evangelist/choir director mother and a youth minister father, sisters Erica and Tina Campbell — and their six other siblings — grew up singing in church choirs. After a stint studying vocal performance at local El Camino College, the duo joined the lineup of traveling gospel shows and toured as backup singers for several R&B acts.

Three years later, they secured a publishing deal with EMI and began accumulating writing and performance credits on soundtracks and through songs recorded by various artists.

With their platinum-selling, Grammy-winning debut album, Thankful, Mary Mary hit a homerun in 2000, due in large part to the broad success of its first single, “Shackles (Praise You).” Their sophomore follow-up, “Incredible”, was released in 2002 and was certified gold, before the group released such hits as “Heaven,” “The Real Party” and “Yesterday” on their self-titled album, “Mary Mary” (2005), which peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200. Their success continued with the release of an acclaimed holiday project, “A Mary Mary Christmas”, in 2006.

It is Mary Mary’s “The Sound” (2008), however, that sparked the duo’s best mainstream success to date, bowing at #7 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the publication’s R&B/hip-hop chart, as well as garnering numerous awards for the album, and for its record-breaking single “God in Me.”

An amazing ten years and numerous accolades later, having earned three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards and an NAACP Image Award, Mary Mary issued their sixth release, the aptly titled “Something Big” (2011). The album features the lively lead single, “Walking.” Like Mary Mary’s previous albums, “Something Big” resonates with a fusion of sound (R&B, hip-hop, dance, pop, gospel and jazz) and empowering messages.

Mary Mary will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Sunday May 6, 2012.

The Beach Boys reunite for their 50th Anniversary Tour and head to South Florida!

The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour is set to surf across North America and is the first time in more than two decades that Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks are touring together.

The band, who performed together at the 2012 Grammy Awards, will also release a new studio album and commemorative 50th Anniversary catalog with Capitol/EMI. The Beach Boys and Capitol/EMI have also teamed up for a 50th Anniversary campaign spotlighting the band’s entire catalog, with several new commemorative releases planned for 2012, including a new hits collection and a career-spanning box set.

For five decades, America’s first pop band to reach the 50 year milestone has recorded and performed the music that has become the world’s favorite soundtrack to summer. The Beach Boys continue to hold Billboard / Nielsen SoundScan’s record as the top-selling American band for albums and singles, and they are also the American group with the most Billboard Top 40 chart hits with 36. “Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys” is fast approaching triple-platinum sales status, and :The SMiLE Sessions”, released to worldwide critical acclaim in November, has been heralded as 2011’s #1 Reissue of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.

Formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, the group was initially composed of brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine. Managed by the Wilsons’ father, the Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in 1962 and released their debut, “Surfin’ Safari”. The band’s early music gained popularity across the nation for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a Southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance.
A similarly themed follow-up, “Surfin’ U.S.A.”, hit the Top Ten in early 1963. The third Beach Boys LP also released in 1963, “Surfer Girl”, featured the title track, “Catch a Wave,” and “In My Room.”
The following year, “I Get Around” became the first #1 hit for the Beach Boys. Riding a crest of popularity, the 1964 LP “Beach Boys Concert” spent four weeks at the top of the album charts, just one of five Beach Boys albums simultaneously on the charts. The single “Help Me, Rhonda” became the Beach Boys’ second chart-topper in early 1965. Other releases including “The Beach Boys Today!”, “Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!)” and “Beach Boys’ Party” followed in 1965. The singles “California Girls” and “Barbara Ann” became surprise hits. The band reached its peak in 1966 with “Pet Sounds” and the #1 single “Good Vibrations.”
In 1974, Capitol Records issued a repackaged hit collection, “Endless Summer”. The double LP hit #1, spent almost three years on the charts, and went gold. That year, Rolling Stone magazine named the Beach Boys its “Band of the Year.” Another collection, “Spirit of America”, hit the Top Ten in 1974. By the end of the decade, though, the group splintered.
It was not until the tragic drowning death of Dennis Wilson in 1983 that the group reformed, and in 1985, the Beach Boys released a self-titled album which returned them to the Top 40 with “Getcha Back.” It would be the last proper Beach Boys album of the ’80s, however, despite the success of the single “Kokomo,” from the soundtrack to the film COCKTAIL that hit #1 in the U.S. in 1988.

The Beach Boys core quintet of the three Wilsons, Love and Jardine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
The Beach Boys will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Friday May 4, 2012.

The Broadway musical hit MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET returns to South Florida!

The three-time Tony-nominated jukebox musical that puts Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins in the same room… MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET is based on the real-life 1956 recording that the foursome made at Sun Records' studio in Memphis, TN. Eric Schaeffer staged the musical that features a book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux; the latter conceived and originally directed the musical.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET opened on Broadway on April 11, 2010 and closed on June 12, 2011 at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City following an acclaimed Chicago run, where the musical continues to play the Apollo Theater. The musical can also be seen at London’s Noel Coward Theatre and now in New York City’s intimate New World Stages.

The original Broadway production earned a Best Musical Tony nomination, as well as Best Book of a Musical and Best Featured Actor for Levi Kreis.

"On Dec. 4, 1956," press notes state, "an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records' storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the 'Father of Rock 'n' Roll,' who discovered them all. The four legends-to-be united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time. . . . MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET captures the infectious spirit, freewheeling excitement and thrilling sounds of a singular moment when four of the music industry's most extraordinary talents, all in their creative prime, came together for one of the most memorable nights in music history."

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET features a score of rock hits that includes "Blue Suede Shoes," "Fever," "That's All Right," "Sixteen Tons," "Great Balls of Fire," "Walk the Line," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Who Do You Love?," "Real Wild Child," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Hound Dog”, among others.

The original Broadway production team recreating their work for the tour includes Derek McLane (scenic design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Jane Greenwood (costume design), Kai Harada (sound design) and Chuck Mead (musical arrangements and supervision).

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET will be at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from November 6 to 18, 2012.
