Cirque du Soleil brings… Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour to South Florida!

If you never got the chance to see Michael Jackson in concert, this could be the next best thing. Jackson's estate and Cirque du Soleil recently announced the dates for Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour.

Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil is an electrifying production that unfolds inside the creative mind of the King of Pop.

Written and directed by Jamie King, the multimillion-dollar shows are scheduled to begin October 2011 and travel across North America to nearly 30 cities. According to a press release, the event is set to combine Jackson's timeless tunes and choreography with Cirque's creative background to showcase "Michael's global messages of love, peace and unity." The production hopes to bring fans into a fantasy world based on the singer's inspirational Giving Tree, which remains the central muse for his love of everything including music, dance, fairy tale and magic, and nature.

Earlier this year, Cirque du Soleil President and CEO Daniel Lamarre spoke about incorporating the late singer's new, old and unreleased songs into the production. "The entire catalog is open to us... we don't know which songs we'll use yet, but obviously all of the people will be looking for the big hits of Michael Jackson; we don't want to avoid that," Lamarre said. "We want to make sure that we will meet musical expectations from the fans."

Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour will be at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida on Friday March 2, 2012.

Acclaimed Queen tribute show ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN heads to South Florida!

ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN is a touring two-hour stage show, paying tribute to the stage theatrics and music of Queen. It is performed by Gary Mullen and The Works, a five piece band headed by Stars In Their Eyes winner and Freddie Mercury sound-alike Gary Mullen on vocals, with Davie Brockett on Guitar, Jonathan Evans on drums, Billy Moffat on bass and Malcolm Gentle on keyboards.

After winning Stars In Their Eyes 2000 by receiving a record breaking number of votes for the show, Mullen began touring with his band The Works, putting on a sell-out tribute act known as One Night Of Queen. The show takes references from many 1980s Queen tours, using a modified custom built lighting rig, made to emulate the lighting rigs used during several Queen tours between 1980 and 1986. Mullen and The Works have taken their tribute show on numerous tours across Europe, New Zealand and the U.S.

Since it began in 2001 the ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN show has gained recognition from Kevin Pollak, Rick Perry, the Governor of Texas and Rick Astley.

Original Queen member, Brian May, himself has kept regular tabs on Garry Mullen and The Works. In 2005 he personally sent Mullen and The Works free backstage passes to a Queen + Paul Rodgers gig in Leipzig, Germany. May has also been quoted several times praising the band, "Gary bears a remarkable likeness to Freddie, not only in emulating Freddie’s unique stage persona but also accurately reproducing Freddie’s live vocal style and range."

In October 2008 Brian May once again reportedly praised the show to the German and Dutch fan club "This is the only tribute show, so far, that we really recommend to our fan-club." The BBC said of the show: "It was difficult at times to remember that the music came not from Queen, but from the Works. Accurately and faithfully performed with the feel of the original preserved."

ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN will be at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday May 7, 2011.

Interpol heads to South Florida with School of Seven Bells!

Though they were originally scheduled to play South Florida as the opening act of the postponed July 9, 2010 U2 360 Tour, Interpol still mapped out plans for an extensive North American tour, their first scheduled road trip in over two years.

The endeavor began at the Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton, MA. From there, the band travelled up and down the east coast before hitting various mid-west locations. Incredibly, they’ll also play two dates in Florida -- in Orlando and Miami Beach, respectively. No word yet on west coast dates, but with a late October appearance scheduled for the New Orleans-based Voodoo Experience, we figure more dates might be scheduled for around then.

As for what you’ll be seeing? Interpol recently offered a further taste of what’s to come at Rochester, New York’s 1,300-person capacity Water Street Music Hall. Spin Magazine reports the band played a 15 song set, 100 minute performance and, in addition the previously revealed “Light”, they debuted two other new numbers, titled “Success” and “Summer Well”.

The trek of course follows quite a bit of other news on the Interpol front. Bassist Carlos D left the band and has since been replaced by Dave Pajo, plus the Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis has been added as a member of the touring lineup. What’s more, the band will be touring behind its forthcoming, self-titled fourth LP, which was released in September 2010 via its new label Matador Records. And if all that weren’t enough, Interpol also dropped a music video for “Lights”.

Interpol (with Special Guest: School of Seven Bells) will be at The Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach, Florida on Friday April 29, 2011.

Tim McGraw brings his EMOTIONAL TRAFFIC 2011 Tour to South Florida!

Tim McGraw is currently on the road with a new tour, EMOTIONAL TRAFFIC, along with opening acts Luke Bryan and the Band Perry. The superstar recently released dates for the first leg of the trek, which kicked-off in Houston, TX, and has taken him to his home state of Louisiana, as well as to Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio and West Virginia.

Tim's EMOTIONAL TRAFFIC 2011 Tour comes on the heels of his hugely-successful SOUTHERN VOICE Tour, which included opening acts Lady Antebellum, Love and Theft and the Lost Trailers. The SOUTHERN VOICE Tour was the highest-ranking country tour on Billboard's list of top grossing tours for 2010, coming in at No. 13.

Tim is currently enjoying the No. 1 position on the charts, thanks to his latest single, 'Felt Good on My Lips,' from the new CD, 'Number One Hits.' But while the superstar likes being at the top, he says the credit goes more to the fans for embracing the music he delivers.

"I just try to go in and find the best songs I can find, songs I really like, and try to let the music and the songs take you where they take you," Tim tells The Boot. "I don't really put any kind of parameters on anything I'm doing. It's gonna be me when I open my mouth, no matter how much I do anything different, it's still gonna be me. Ultimately, as an artist, you have to go in and cut songs you like and make them sound the way you want them to sound, and hopefully, the people will like it."

Tim McGraw will be at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday April 30, 2011.

Mötley Crüe bring Poison and New York Dolls and their Summer 2011 Tour to South Florida!

Mötley Crüe has released a statement confirming that they will embark on a summer "headlining" tour "with support from Poison and special guest New York Dolls.”

A press release issued by the Poison camp on Monday indicated that the Bret Michaels-fronted glam rockers and Mötley Crüe would "co-headline" the tour, which is expected to include shows in Canada.

Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil was asked during a November 19, 2010 appearance on the "Elliot In The Morning" radio talk show about Poison singer Bret Michaels' onstage claim that Poison and Mötley Crüe would celebrate their 25th and 30th anniversaries, respectively, this year by joining forces for a North American trek. "I don't know why Bret would say that," Neil said. "And I hadn't heard about it. People were asking me, and I'm going, 'I never heard that in my life.' And I was getting a lot of Twitters about it. I finally just called my office and said, 'What is up with this?' I was kind of pissed that nobody told me. And they go, 'Look, we have no idea. There was never anything like that [being considered] or that was even being talked about.' But the funny thing is, ever since [Bret] did that and now people are talking about it, crazier things have happened. It could happen. Because you have promoters out there going, 'Hmmm…. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, that sounds like a great package.' You know what I mean?!"

In a February 2004 online posting, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx shot down reports that his then-band Brides of Destruction would be touring later that year with Poison and KISS. "No way in f***ing hell would we (Brides of Destruction or Mötley Crüe) ever, ever tour with a f***ing band like Poison," he wrote. "We have had talks with KISS and I told them very clearly that we would not do the tour if they used Poison. That would be the death of us... I will not be attached to that kind of fake bulls**t..." When questioned about his comments in a May 2004 interview with the Stamford Advocate, Sixx explained, "I was in negotiations and said it depends who else is on the tour. If you're going to do a nostalgia thing, we're not interested. If you go get Jet or The Darkness, it sounds like fun. All of a sudden they come back with KISS, the Brides of Destruction and Poison! There ain't no way in hell I'm doing that tour. I will not play with f***ing Poison. There are followers and leaders. I'm not into followers."

During a July 2005 interview with the Fox 2 TV network, Sixx famously closed out the four-minute chat by calling the interviewer "an a**hole" after he was asked the question, "Who rocked harder in the '80s: Mötley Crüe or Poison?"

When Poison drummer Rikki Rockett was questioned in an August 2006 interview with DelcoTimes.com about Sixx being abrasively vocal in his displeasure about being categorized alongside Poison, Rikki replied, "Nikki really needs to get over it. I don't think a forty-something-year-old man should be acting like that; you'd think with all that Nikki has been through, he wouldn't care about these dumb little rivalries."

Mötley Crüe (with Poison and New York Dolls) will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday July 5, 2011.

Usher brings back his OMG TOUR along with Akon back to South Florida!

By overwhelming popular demand, multi-platinum recording artist Usher has added a second North American leg to the worldwide OMG TOUR that has been selling-out arenas across the globe. Usher will showcase his signature brand of hit-filled R&B-infused pop, and will share the stage with special guest: superstar Akon.

On Super Bowl Sunday, 160 million viewers worldwide watched as Usher descended onto the stage as part of an explosive halftime show. The surprise performance coincided with the announcement that the OMG TOUR is returning to the United States. The Chicago Tribune raved that
"turning the arena into his own house of Usher, the singer celebrated his R&B dominance of the last 15 years."

Grammy nominated international pop star Akon first rose to prominence in 2004 and has since sold over 10 million albums worldwide. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simutaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts -- an achievement he attained twice. In 2007 alone, Akon won the American Music Award for Favorite Soul R&B Male Artist, three World Music Awards, and the Billboard Music Award for Artist of the Year.

The OMG TOUR comes hot on the heels of Usher's pop chart smash, "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love", from his recent No. 1 album "Versus". Usher was showcased with a performance at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday February 13, 2011.

Usher (with Special Guest: Akon) will be at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday April 27, 2011.

Sirius/XM Radio and Broadway Personality Seth Rudetsky brings his BIG FAT BROADWAY SHOW to South Florida!

Whether as host of the Sirius/XM radio Broadway Channel, Playbill.com weekly columnist, vocal coach and accompanist to musical theater's biggest names, actor or playwright, Seth Rudetsky knows so much about theater and its stars that his tour can only be called one thing: SETH’S BIG FAT BROADWAY SHOW.

Describing his upcoming show at the Broward Center on his web site, Rudetsky writes, "I’m bringing my own private video and audio collection to show you how to differentiate between what’s vocally amazing (Patti LuPone in EVITA) and what’s a vocal travesty (Madonna singing the same material). Gavin Creel, Betty Buckley, The Mamas and the Papas, Carly Simon, THE PAJAMA GAME, Melba Moore… ALL will be deconstructed. Video highlights (lowlights?) include the mercifully short-lived BRADY BUNCH VARIETY HOUR and Cher singing all the roles in WEST SIDE STORY on her early 70’s CBS TV variety show. Believe or not, you’ll see it!"

As a pianist, Rudetsky has played for more than a dozen Broadway shows including RAGTIME, LES MISERABLES and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. He was the artistic producer/music director for the first five annual Actors Fund Fall Concerts including the now legendary 2001 all-star concert of DREAMGIRLS (recorded on Nonesuch Records) and HAIR with pre-Oscar Jennifer Hudson (recorded on Ghostlight Records and a Grammy Award nominee).

Off-Broadway, Rudetsky wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed RHAPSODY IN SETH and has authored the books “The Q Guide to Broadway” and “Broadway Nights”. In 2007, he made his Broadway acting debut in the Roundabout Theater Company’s revival of the comedy THE RITZ and recently Rudetsky was the vocal coach on MTV’s LEGALLY BLONDE reality show.

Seth Rudetsky’s BIG FAT BROADWAY SHOW will be at the Amaturo Theatre at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday April 21, 2011.

Legendary Tom Jones brings his PRAISE & BLAME 2011 Tour to South Florida!

Tom Jones' 46-year career has remarkably gone from strength to strength. Along with sustaining his popularity as a live performer and recording artist for more than four decades, he has garnered (at the age of 70) the best reviews of his career for his recent album "Praise & Blame". Critics across the world are nearly unanimous in their approval and admiration for both the recorded work and the performance of it in concert.

The "Praise & Blame" mantra was 'get back to basics', and the album was recorded as wholly 'live' performances at Peter Gabriel's studio in Bath, England and produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling and Paolo Nutini). The result witnesses a singer at the top of his game, with the song themselves coaxing exhilarating performances out of Tom and his band. Played live to astounding success at festivals and venues in the UK and Europe, Tom now brings his PRAISE & BLAME 2011 Tour to concertgoers everywhere as part of his live show experience.

Tom has fundamental interest in a wide range of music. Although he is well known for hits including "It's Not Unusual", "Kiss", "Delilah", "She's a Lady", "What's New Pussycat?", "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" and "If I Only Knew", he is first and foremost a rocker with a true rhythm and blues soul. He has remained a vital recording artist, with his 1999 album "Reload" the biggest selling (5 million) of his then 35-year career.

Tom was a key player in Martin Scorsese's RED WHITE & BLUES series, and in 2004 released an album of roots rock'n'roll with Jools Holland, the foremost boogie pianist in the UK. Prior to 2010's "Praise & Blame", his 2008 studio album "24 Hours" was a critical career highlight with many of the self-penned tracks being an insightful and evocative reflection of his spirited and rich life. In the words of the Washington Post: "... "24 Hours" finds Jones vocalizing with an almost reckless exuberance. This vibrant collection exemplifies Tom's substance and grit, tempered with an air of reflection."

Tom was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen in 2006, an honor he fervently cherishes. Other highlights of his 44-year career including receiving a BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement, in 2009 the "Hitmaker" Award from the U.S. Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 2010 the prestigious (UK) Music Industry Trust Award. He has been animated as himself in THE SIMPSONS, DUCK DODGERS and Disney's THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE and other film roles have included Tim Burton's MARS ATTACKS! and Anjelica Houston's AGNES BROWN.

Sir Tom is indeed a living legend. He is welcomed in venues worldwide, from urban clubs to performing arts centers to arenas. His irresistable show traverses musical eras and genres, cuts across class divides and appeals to young and old, male and female, mainstream and cutting edge. Godfather of modern soul, Sir Tom has always been about the power of the song, the power of the voice.

Tom Jones will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Thursday April 21, 2011.

E!’s THE SOUP and NBC TV’s COMMUNITY star Joel McHale brings his comedy to South Florida!

Comedian and actor Joel McHale knows better than anyone how absurd most celebrities (and wannabe celebrities) look on your television screen. Fortunately for pop culture junkies, he's not afraid to take them to task as the host of THE SOUP, E!'s reality show satire program. He's the perfect guide to the Hollyweird menagerie, filled with its bizarre and loopy characters.

Even if you're not familiar with McHale from THE SOUP, you may have seen him on the tube. He was a regular cast member on NBC's sketch comedy show ALMOST LIVE from 1995 until 1998. He's also appeared in the films SPIDER-MAN 2 and LORDS OF DOGTOWN, as well as a string of Burger King commercials. He also once served as a judge on The Food Network’s Iron Chef America and can now be seen as the star of NBC TV’s hit Thursday night sitcom COMMUNITY.

On THE SOUP, McHale's humor stands out, taking well-deserved snipes at celebrities and reality show culture while keeping things light with his wacky, sometimes surreal joking. No matter what the audience, McHale will keep you in stitches.

Joel McHale will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Saturday June 11, 2011.

Robert Plant with Band of Joy head back to South Florida!

It’s not every day that you get a chance to see a member of Led Zeppelin live. But that’s exactly what lucky Americans and Canadians will be getting this year, when Robert Plant takes his Band of Joy on the road. Touring in support of his critically acclaimed album, “Band of Joy”, the North American leg is looking to make the next several months a little brighter. And if you’re wondering, yes, the band has been known to play a Zeppelin song or two during their live performance.

The latest trek began in Asheville, NC on January 18th, and then pretty much sticks to the Eastern zone for the entire set of dates. The only non-US date was a stop in Toronto on January 22nd. So far, the tour is scheduled to end near where it began, with a pair of dates in Nashville on February 8th and 9th. Backing Plant is the same group that played with him on the record: Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi-instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals; and co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals. The North Mississippi All Stars Duo will open for the group on all dates.

Now, since there’s Robert Plant news, obviously we can’t let you go without noting his former bandmate’s recent comments. At the Classic Rock “Roll of Honour” Awards recently, Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page mentioned plans to tour himself. “I’m desperate to be playing, but it won’t be ’til next year (2011),” Page said. “I’ll get a good vehicle to get out there and do some concerts.”

Robert Plant with Band of Joy will be at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on Thursday April 14, 2011.

Lady GaGa’s MONSTER BALL World Tour finally hits South Florida!

Lady GaGa has captivated audiences around the globe with her stunning international smash, THE MONSTER BALL World Tour, presented by Virgin Mobile.

In 2010 the tour has taken her throughout Europe and North American, where she received rave reviews everywhere she stopped. With the majority of North American dates already sold out, Lady GaGa has announced she will be extending her North American 2011 tour.

Critics around the world raved about the first leg of THE MONSTER BALL Tour which GaGa described as “the first-ever pop-electro opera.” The Sun called it “breathtaking stuff” and “the best live show you will see this year,” while London’s Independent wrote: “GaGa’s got it, which is why, right now, the whole pop world wants to take a ride on her disco stick.” Writing about her show at Radio City Music Hall, the New York Times noted that “her MONSTER BALL Tour always provided something worth a snapshot: a sci-fi tableau, perhaps, or a skimpy, glittery costume. The more her image gets around, the better Lady GaGa does.” “In just 2 years Lady GaGa has become an international superstar, selling out everywhere in the world,” said Arthur Fogel, CEO Global Touring and Chairman – Global Music Live Nation.

Lady GaGa is touring in support of “The Fame Monster”, which was released on November 18th, 2009, by Streamline/Konlive/Cherrytree/Interscope. The album is the follow-up to 2008’s Grammy Award-winning album “The Fame”, which spawned the No. 1 singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.”

Combined, “The Fame” and “The Fame Monster” have sold 13.5 million albums worldwide, while Lady GaGa’s current singles, “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Lovegame,” “Paparazzi,” “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” have combined sales over 50 million worldwide.

At this year’s BRIT awards, she took home awards for International Album (“The Fame”), International Female Solo Act and International Breakthrough Act. At the 2010 MTV VMA’s Lady GaGa took home a record 8 wins including ‘Video of the Year’.

Her music videos have received a combined total of over 1 billion views online – the first artist to reach this number. Lady GaGa has made another video milestone with “Bad Romance” becoming the most viewed video of all-time on YouTube.com.

Humorist David Sedaris heads to South Florida!

With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

David Sedaris is the author “Barrel Fever” and “Holidays on Ice”, as well as collections of personal essays, “Naked”, “Me Talk Pretty One Da”, “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim”, and “When You Are Engulfed in Flames”, each of which became a bestseller. There are a total of seven million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. He was the editor of “Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories”.

Sedaris' pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have twice been included in 'The Best American Essays.' His newest book, a collection of fables entitled “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary” (with illustrations by Ian Falconer), was published in September 2010 and immediately hit the NYT Bestseller Fiction List.
