UK rockers Interpol set their own South Florida date!

Though they were originally scheduled to play South Florida as the opening act of the postponed July 9th U2 360 Tour, Interpol has mapped out plans for an extensive North American tour, their first scheduled road trip in over two years.

The endeavor is set to begin July 23rd at the Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton, MA. From there, the band will travel up and down the east coast before hitting various midwest locations. Incredibly, they’ll also play two dates in Florida on August 19th and 21st in Orlando and Miami Beach, respectively. No word yet on west coast dates, but with a late October appearance scheduled for the New Orleans-based Voodoo Experience, we figure more dates might be scheduled for around then.

As for what you’ll be seeing? Interpol recently offered a further taste of what’s to come at Rochester, New York’s 1,300-person capacity Water Street Music Hall. Spin Magazine reports the band played a 15 song set, 100 minute performance and, in addition the previously revealed “Light”, they debuted two other new numbers, titled “Success” and “Summer Well”.

The trek of course follows quite a bit of other news on the Interpol front. Bassist Carlos D left the band and has since been replaced by Dave Pajo, plus the Secret Machines’ Brandon Curtis has been added as a member of the touring lineup. What’s more, the band will be touring behind its forthcoming, self-titled fourth LP, which is due for release in September 2010 via its new label Matador Records. And if all that weren’t enough, Interpol has also just dropped a music video for “Lights”.

Interpol (with Special Guest: Twin Tigers) will be at The Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach, Florida on Saturday August 21, 2010.

Alejandro Sanz brings his PARAISO TOUR back to South Florida!

Alejandro Sanz is immersed in an international tour, which it has already visited over thirty cities. The PARAISO TOUR has brought three common elements no matter where Sanz has played: a sold-out poster hanging outside each concert, a thrilled audience that does not stop singing and dancing throughout the entire show and excellent reviews.

Sanz has made multitudinous concerts, such as the ones offered at Argentina’s Estadio Velez in Buenos Aires, Seville’s Estadio Olimpico, Chile’s Arena Santiago de Chile, six concerts at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional or Madrid’s Palacio de Los Deportes.

Sanz, accompanied by his band of nine musicians, presents his new work, "Paraiso Express" as well as his career’s great classics, with a spectacular staging that leaves no one indifferent.

"Paraiso Express" captures the artist’s essence as a songwriter and performer. “This album leans more towards rock than my previous albums, a more elegant one with more positive lyrics, and a happier spirit and more rhythmic,” says Sanz.

Ten brilliant and poignant songs where Sanz manages to immerse the listener completely in their stormy stories, with the idea of bringing them to their particular havens. "Paraiso Express" was produced by Puerto Rican producer Tommy Torres and mixed by world famous engineer Bob Clearmountain, who made some of the best albums by the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen or Paul McCartney, among others. Alejandro seems to have found his true songwriter’s paradise in this record, showing once again, why he is still the most important Spanish musician in decades.

Alejandro Sanz will be at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida on Saturday August 7, 2010.

Marc Anthony brings his ICONOS WORLD TOUR to South Florida!

Marc Anthony calls his latest album, "Iconos," one of his most satisfying, but the crooner acknowledges experiencing a roller-coaster of emotions while he was recording it. "I felt the gravity of the responsibility ... and also in the studio I felt the insecurity, the absolute bliss, uncertainty, total satisfaction, fear," he recalled in a recent interview. "You invest all these years in this project. ... you go to the studio and you say, 'What do I have to offer? This song is perfect! Am I gonna fall short?' ... and then it's over, and wow."

The finished album, released this past May 2010, was on top of Billboard's tropical albums chart for several weeks. It includes covers of romantic classics by Mexicans Juan Gabriel and Jose Jose and Spaniard Jose Luis Perales, and Spanish ballads like "El Triste," ''Y Como es El" and "Amada Amante." Anthony said he listened to these songs as a kid growing up in New York City. "I was raised with these songs that my parents listened to never realizing it was going to be the soundtrack of my life," he said, speaking in a mixture of Spanish and English. "Today I realize it and I get amazed by their importance."

The album, produced by Marc Anthony and Julio Reyes, features 10 songs, two of them original. While he sings songs by his favourite singers, Anthony said the selections were not made because of the artist but because of the song. His favourite is "Almohada," a Jose Jose hit from the 1970s. "The arrangement is so cinematic. ... Even if you take the lyrics off there is a story," said the 41-year-old musician. "The song challenged me. ... It captures the challenge that making this album was."

The order of the songs was chosen by his superstar wife, Jennifer Lopez. "Jennifer absolutely loved it! She was there every step of the way. She actually sequenced the album. She's my muse," he said proudly.

Lopez was not the only star to appreciate the album. Anthony has received positive comments from some of the original singers of the ballads. "Perales wrote me immediately the sweetest note saying he was proud of the song. ... Juan Gabriel sent me a beautiful letter saying he was honoured that I chose his songs, that he was very proud of me. It really took me by surprise," he said.

Anthony, who has enjoyed great success singing both English pop and Spanish salsa, is on a tour of Latin America that will take him to Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. He returns to the United States on September 10 with a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York. Before the year ends, he plans to release a salsa album.

"That time has come: I can't sleep anymore. That's when I know I'm ready, when I can't sleep thinking of the next project," he said, laughing. "We have the pot on the stove and we're getting the ingredients together to cook that salsa."

Marc Anthony brings his ICONOS WORLD TOUR to the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida on Friday September 17, 2010.

Spain wins the 2010 World Cup!

Spain and the Netherlands duked it out on the field last night for 2 hours before Spain became the final victor in a 1-0 first time World Cup win. The Netherlands also had a chance to take home their first World Cup today, but they fell victim to the swift kick of Andres Iniesta, who scored the game winner in extra time. Iniesta broke free from the penalty area, receiving a pass from Cesc Febregras, and gave an 8 yard kick past goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Now while this may have been an exciting victory for Spain, the Dutch probably felt even more defeated, since the stands were primarily filled with Dutch fans, wearing Orange in support of their team. The Dutch was considered the Home Team of the game, and utter defeat was what they felt when that kick came out of nowhere!! That’s okay, they can go to Amsterdam and smoke the pain away.

One of the other highlights of the game was the opening speech by Nelson Mandela, who will see his 92nd Birthday this coming Sunday. The crowd of 85,000 gave a standing ovation for his entrance and remained standing for his entire speech, spanning three minutes and focusing on how pleased he is for South Africa to host the World Cup. This speech within itself is a message of overcoming, as Mandela had to cancel his speech for the opening ceremony due to the untimely passing of his 13 year-old great granddaughter, Zenani Zanethemba Nomasonto Mandela. Nelson Mandela had shared with the world one of his final cherished memories of her was when she was kissed three times by Cristiano Ronaldo. Zenani sadly passed in a traffic accident after heading home from one of the World Cup’s opening concerts.

South Africa is proud to have been a part of these World Cup events, knowing that it not only brought more awareness and focus to the continent, but for also being a centerpiece of bringing the world together.

Lebron James heads to South Florida and the Miami Heat!

The decision has been rendered by King James. NBA star LeBron James revealed last night that he is leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to play for the Miami Heat. James made the announcement about half way through an hour-long special on ESPN. James has decided to join forces with Heat guard Dwyane Wade and forward Chris Bosh to create what some are calling the “Three My-Egos” in Miami.

James said he didn't reach the decision to go to South Beach until Thursday morning June 8th. The two time league MVP who has played in Cleveland since being selected by the Cavs right out of high school in 2003 also said he's going to the Miami Heat because he wants to be able to win championships, and he feels like he can in Miami.

James, the big prize in the NBA free agent frenzy of 2010, really touched a nerve last night in Cav’s owner Dan Gilbert who penned a scathing open letter to the team's fans. Gilbert called the decision by James a cowardly betrayal and said that he can, quote, "Personally guarantee that the Cleveland Cavaliers will win an NBA championship before the self-titled former 'king' wins one”. He also accused James of quitting in Cleveland’s second round playoff series loss this season to the Celtics.

Miami Heat President Pat Riley and Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade released the following statements last night:

PAT RILEY: “We are thrilled that LeBron James and Chris Bosh have decided to come to Miami to join forces with our truly great player, Dwyane Wade. We are looking forward to the opportunity of building something that our fans in Miami will be proud of for a long, long time. The journey is just beginning.”

DWYANE WADE: “I am thrilled to welcome LeBron James to the Heat family. I look forward to playing alongside LeBron, Chris Bosh and our teammates, and together representing the great city of Miami. There's magic in the number 3. This is the beginning of new chapter in Heat history and very exciting for both fans of the Miami Heat and the NBA.”

The Miami Heat play at the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami, Florida.

Legendary musician Neil Young is set to return to the concert stage with his solo TWISTED ROAD Tour. In lieu of playing stadiums or more traditional concert venues, the shows for this solo tour will be held in some of the nation’s top performing arts venues. Young’s most recent live performances leading up to this tour have come on the final episode of "The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien" and the 2010 Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic games.

This special solo, acoustic tour will give fans the opportunity to see Young in an intimate setting and, according to a press release about the tour, will afford them the opportunity to hear not-yet-released tracks from the legendary musician. British folk legend Bert Jansch will be opening all dates on the tour.
